Hotel Hound: Moments Facing the Infinite Horizon

Gangneung is a coastal city that feels much closer than it looks, reachable in just about two hours from Seoul via the KTX. As a landmark destination on the East Coast, it reveals a different charm with every season. In the summer, the city vibrates with energy as travelers flock to the water to escape the heat. The sense of openness provided by the deep blue sea and the endless horizon is enough to wash away the fatigue of city life, and this trip was planned with the simple goal of resting within that very scenery.

For this journey, I chose "Hotel Hound," a stay renowned for its stunning ocean-view rooms. Located just a 10 minute taxi ride or a 15 minute bus trip from Gangneung Station, this place was more than just a place to sleep; it was an experience that seemed to dissolve the boundary between me and the sea. From the moment I stepped into the lobby, the clean, sophisticated interior and the calm, welcoming demeanor of the staff offered a sense of relief, whispering, "Ah, I am finally here to rest." If first impressions matter to you, you will likely be satisfied from this point on.

The gasp of awe that escapes when you first open the guest room door is something only those who have stood before this view can truly understand. The vast blue horizon stretching beyond the floor to ceiling windows feels as if a massive landscape painting has been hung upon the wall. I found myself standing in silence for a while, watching the boundary between the sea and sky grow faint. The crisp, cozy white bedding made the space feel even more refined, and lying there watching the waves, I could feel time slowing down. The minimalist interior allowed the colors and light of the ocean to take center stage.

The true magic of Hotel Hound becomes even clearer at dusk and dawn. Heading up to the rooftop at sunset to feel the cool ocean breeze was the perfect way to wrap up the day. Watching the sky turn crimson while listening to the gentle rhythm of the waves brought a peace of mind so deep I almost forgot I was a traveler. The sunrise the next morning, witnessed right from my bed, was another unforgettable moment. Being able to embrace the red sun rising over the horizon without even stepping outside is perhaps the most compelling reason to return to this hotel.

The surrounding infrastructure was also highly convenient from a traveler’s perspective. Right in front of the hotel lies an endless coastal trail, perfect for a light morning or evening stroll. Moreover, Gangneung’s famous soft tofu restaurants, spicy seafood noodle shops, and trendy cafes are all within walking distance, making it easy to plan an itinerary without any stress. Even without a car, the accessibility allows you to fully enjoy the charms of Gangneung.

In terms of value, Hotel Hound was an excellent choice. I was able to enjoy an ocean view room at a very reasonable price, and a single night’s stay felt like it recharged my weary body and mind with new energy. The breakfast buffet, offering both Western and Korean options, was also impressive as it allowed for a variety of choices. For those who like to start their travel days with a hearty meal, this will be a significant plus.

If you are looking for a true rest accompanied by a perfect ocean view in Gangneung, I recommend Hotel Hound without hesitation. For those who want to feel the sea at its closest and spend time being perfectly content doing absolutely nothing, a night here will undoubtedly remain a cherished memory.
